Dana Point, MD

Dana Point, MD is a board-certified urologist who returned home to Wilmington, NC to serve his beloved community after completing his training. As a native of Wilmington, Dr. Point attended Duke University and earned a degree in art history. After working in a laboratory for two years, he attended The Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University in Huntington, WV. Dr. Point continued his education in West Virginia by earning the only urology residency spot in the state that year and completed his residency at West Virginia University. During his first year he was named the Trauma Resident of the Year. After his first year he continued his training in pediatrics, robotics, laparoscopic, open, trauma, and congenital urology. Dr. Point is a skilled writer and researcher who published numerous papers and spoke at several conferences while in residency. Dr. Point was named Chief Resident and led the residents in his final year of training.

Dr. Point began practicing urology in Wilmington in 2016 and joined Urology Associates of Southeastern North Carolina in 2021. He is a valued member of UASENC and sees patients in the Wilmington and Southport offices. He has operative privileges at both New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Dosher Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Point specializes in whole and partial nephrectomies (kidney removal), cystectomies (bladder removal), and prostatectomies (prostate removal). While a cancer diagnosis can be scary, Dr. Point always takes the time to explain the diagnosis and prognosis to the patient and together they formulate a plan to best fit each individual patient.

Dr. Point is a diplomate of the American Board of Urology, a member of the American Urological Association, and is active in the New Hanover Pender County Medical Society.

Dr. Point serves on the Medical Advisory Board of the Koolen-de Vries Syndrome Foundation, a rare disease foundation headquartered in Wilmington, with worldwide reach. When not serving as a doctor or advisory, Dr. Point spends his time with his wife and three kids. Dr. Point and his family enjoy all that Wilmington has to offer-beaches, downtown, hiking, and biking. In addition, he is a skilled metal sculptor and artist and several of his pieces are featured around the Wilmington community.
